  1. I have all of the reqierments for excel platinum but then I would be the only girl in platinum at my gym. I want to ask my coach if I can move to platinum, but would I be allowed to compete on my own?

      • I can’t do a back handspring (or a bridge kickover (I know lane)) but I got moved to xcel gold I is xcel gold anyways
Do I need a back handspring by now

        • No, you don’t need to have a back handspring for Xcel Gold. There’s a few people in my group who don’t have back handsprings and were able to compete Gold just fine.

          • But the bhs is needed a lot in the future on multiple events and there aren’t really anyways around them, so it would be good to get it really soon.

          • There are actually many ways around back handsprings. I am a former JO level 6 gymnast (I am switching to Xcel platinum for more freedom) and I cannot do back handsprings because I have shoulder issues and I have many options for tumbling still. My tumbling passes last year were front handspring step out, round off, back tuck and front pike.

  2. Would a kip, cast (above horizontal), clear hip, kip, squat on, jump to high bar, tap swing, counter tap swing, flyaway, work?

  3. Would a kip cast above horizontal backhip circle squat on Jump to high bar kip cast under swing dismount be allowed?

  4. For beam, since you can do an acro series with or without flight, would it be possible for me to do a backwalkover back tuck dismount because it is a connection and has flight it would just be my dismount. Can that be allowed?

    • Yes it would count, you may get deducted points for it depending on whether the judge is nice or not but its allowed. I used to do a handstand, back walkover, back tuck and it just depends on the judge.

  5. Has the cast requirements changed ? Judges keep saying that our girls are not meeting cast requirements and they all at least parallel.

    • Aimee,
I think it needs to be at least parallel (horizontal). But in the code of points it says horizontal or above. Make sure to check that their toes aren’t below their waist in the cast. when i was competing, my coach said that my toes were not parallel with the rest of my body, so i got a 0.5 deduction.
      Hope this helped,
      Marisa

  6. I have all the requirements to be an xcel platinum, and I am one, but I am going to nationals in Florida this year, and I want to know if I need a certain all around score to get into regionals? If not how do I get in?

  7. Hi! I’m moving to Xcel Platinum for the 2018-2019 season. Would these skills qualify to be in my routines?
    Vault: Front Handspring 1/2 twist
Bars: Kip, cast back hip circle, squat-on, jump to high bar, long hang kip, cast-away, flyaway.
Beam: Split jump, Back walkover (maybe a switch leg), Cartwheel, and back tuck or branny dismount.
Floor: Roundoff Back handspring back tuck, front tuck roundoff (or front pike), full (360 degrees) turn, Split leap side leap.
    Thanks,
    Marisa

P.S. Does anyone know a good youtube channel or website for Xcel floor music? If so, do they have any sassy ones?

    • It is fine except for the back walkover on beam; it says you need to have a skill with flight, like a back handspring on round off, or a series that can either have flight or not

  8. I am almost 14 years old and I am a level 8 gymnast who is now diamond Xcel it you have any questions I am also a coach and I have been training for a long time

  9. vault: half on
bars: kip cast(above horizontal) clear hip, kip, squat on, high bar kip, cast down, flyaway
beam: leap backwalkover, backwalkover series, front tuck, straight jump, tuck jump, handstand
floor: round off back handspring back tuck, front pike, full turn(360), leap.

Is this good for Xcel Platinum?

  10. I have girls from England coming over to do a comp in the Bahamas – is there somewhere we can download a copy of the Xcel Code of Points? We think we’re ok with the routines but need to check a couple of things, like is a changement jump allowable on beam as a link in the jump series?

  19. Hi, currnetly I am working a front full and am close to doing it on the floor. Would I be able to do this in Platinum or will I just have to to a front pike or front layout?

    • you don’t but the only other dismount for bars is an underswing dismount and it’s hard to get credit for that.

    • Floor:
      Standing Back Tuck
      Round off BHS Tuck
      Round off tuck
      Round off back handspring layout
      Front Tuck

      • i would say excel gold would be better. you do not meet all the requirements and even if you work hard on them you will still be struggling throughout the season.

  20. Ok, so i havent done gymnastics in 2 years but im going back soon and i have a lot of skills on floor like a round off back handspring tuck, standing, tuck, front hand spring..but i havent done bars in a while. However, I want to be on Platinum with my best friend. Do you think I could get into Platinum if i had a front tuck on floor, a RBHS tuck, backwalkover, back tuck as dismount on beam, front handspring on vault, and a kip on bars??

  21. Can a gymnast compete Platinum, qualify for state and regionals, and then be moved down to xcel Gold for the next season?

  22. My daughters floor routine scoring is starting at 9.5 instead of 10. Why would this be happening? I assume she’s missing a required skill? She’s on XCEL platinum
    Thanks!

  23. Can my platinum’s do a
Kip, cast handstand front support cast squat on kip up cast clear hip push away fly away off?

  24. Questions:
    1. What is the average age range for platinum?
    2. Can you compete a half on vault?
    3. Is a layout flyaway considered a b skill?
    4. Can you compete more than 1 b skill?
    5. Can you compete punch front tuck on floor?

    • You can compete punch front tuck on floor. I did in Silver so if you do it wont be very advanced. The age range is typically ages 12-16 i think. I’m 12 and in gold.

  25. do i need a flyaway for platinum? i am in xcel gold and i dont have my flyaway but otherwise i have pretty much everything else

  26. I am on gold and have most of these skills. My gym is harsher and very much perfectionists and we coached Shane wiskus and are sending another one to the Olympics too. My goal is to move up the platinum this year, earlier than my other teammates. Does anyone have any tips to work towards that goal? Thanks

  27. For platinum on floor if I do a front handspring step out roundoff back tuck and also do a one in a half turn (540), for my second pass can I do a roundoff back tuck, or do I need to do a B skill?

  28. For bars can I do kip, cast, free hip, kip, squat on, tap swings, fly away?
For beam can I do a full turn, straight and split jump connection , cartwheel cartwheel connection, and back tuck dismount?
And for floor can I do a full turn, front handspring tuck, roundoff tuck, and a normal leap or switch leap?

  29. i am a platinum and I am the youngest one. is that okay? people say that I am not as good because I am 7.

    • Wow, good job being in platinum at age 7!! Even if you’re not as good you still deserve to be there so don’t let them get to your head.

  30. For bars can i do kip handstand turn kip squat on jump to high bar, high bar kip free hip, giant, toe on front tuck? And for vault can i du a yurchenko or a tsukahara tuck?

  31. For bars can i do kip handstand turn kip squat on jump to high bar, high bar kip free hip, giant, toe on front tuck? And for vault can i du a yurchenko or a tsukahara tuck?

  32. I have my flyaway but I just got back from a long trip and I lost the skill and I don’t have time to retrain the skill because competition season is coming up so I’m doing kip, double back hip circle, squat on, jump to high bar, kip, back hip circle…… and and me and my coach are thinking about doing a front flyaway, how can I connect that skill into my routine?

  33. Great breakdown of the Xcel Platinum level requirements! It’s super helpful for both gymnasts and parents to understand what to expect. Thanks for sharing such detailed information!

  34. Does anyone have tips for a back handspring? I have all of my skills for gold/platinum but don’t have a bhs, so I can’t move up.

    • On beam you have to put one hand on top of each other and then as soon as you get to handstand in your bhs you split your legs so you can land and when landing turn your front foot out and lunge and work that and you’ll have it.

  35. Would a half turn on my bad foot directly connected to a handstand/cartwheel/or jump count as a dance series on beam? Thanks! P.S can I compete a full wolf turn on beam in gold or platinum? Thank you!
