We LOVE providing tips and skills for our readers to practice their gymnastics at home! This one is especially for those more advanced gymnasts that are looking to add higher level (B and up) skills to their floor or beam routines.
1 – Switch Leap
A switch leap is an advanced leap that can help you earn difficulty in your gymnastics routines. Before learning a switch leap you should have mastered a split leap, and be able to do it with a 180° split with squeezed legs and pointed feet.

2 – Press Handstand
A press handstand is one of the coolest ways to show off your crazy gymnastics strength and control. It’s also one of the TOPS skills. Before you can learn to do a press handstand, you should have mastered a regular handstand.

3 – Wolf Turn
Wolf turns are a great way for gymnasts to increase the value of skills in their routines. It’s important to note that beginning in 2022, gymnasts will no longer be able to add multiple wolf turns to their routines, which will eliminate the triple-double wolf turns in routines.

4 – 1 1/2 Turn
In a 1 1/2 turn, your body will turn 540° while standing in relevé on one foot. Standing in relevé means to be standing on the ball of your foot, with your body making a straight line from your knee all the way to the ball of your foot. You can either start from a point (one foot in front of you pointed), or a lunge (one leg in front of you bent with weight on it).

6 – Hop 1/1 with Leg Above Horizontal
To complete this skill you will raise your leg in a front scale to 90º and hop while completing a 1/1 turn. Make sure you are achieving the full 360º to get credit for this skill.

7 – Wolf Jump 1/2 Turn
This one is kind of self explanatory. You’re going to do a wolf jump with a 1/2 turn. It’s a fun skill to increase the value of your routine.

9 – Press Handstand on Beam
Like we mentioned earlier, a press handstand is one of the coolest ways to show off your crazy gymnastics strength and control – and completing it on the beam, even cooler! It’s also one of the TOPS skills. Before you can learn to do a press handstand, you should have mastered a regular handstand.

10 – Handstand Pirouette
A controlled handstand is key before adding in the pirouette. Since it is a relatively easy skill, it has a lower value on floor than on the beam.
