Here is a list of the Xcel Diamond Gymnastics Requirements if you are competing Xcel Diamond.

Xcel Diamond is the fifth and last level in the Xcel gymnastics levels. To compete gymnastics in the Xcel Diamond Division, the gymnast must be able to do routines that meet these
requirements, as stated in the Xcel Code of Points, and have scored a 31 All-Around as a Platinum level gymnast. These requirements are paraphrased for easier comprehension; for precise information always refer to the official book published by USA Gymnastics.

The Xcel Diamond division is one level in the Xcel program; here is more information about all the gymnastics levels. The Xcel Diamond division is comparable in skill level to a Level 7 in the Junior Olympic program.

While these are requirements, some gymnasts compete in the Xcel Diamond level without being able to do all the skills listed below. For what requirements gymnasts don’t fulfill, the judges take deductions.

xcel diamond skills list 2024

Diamond Floor Requirements

Diamond gymnasts must have the following in their floor routine:

  1. 5 “A” & 2 “B” valued skills

What happens after you compete diamond?

You can then move on to compete in the JO program, the traditional levels 1-10.

Actually, at a lot of gyms, you cannot go from Xcel to JO. But for those gyms that do allow the transition, if you have competed Diamond, you would probably be ready for Level 7 or 8.
If you are at least 14, the coach could use video of your Diamond routines and other skills you have to petition you into Level 7. If you are under 14, you would have to score out of Level 4 and level 5 and then you could compete Level 7 (or also score out of Level 7 and compete Level 8).

You can score out of Level 6 if you are good enough at Level 5. If you competed Dimond Level 5 would be easy so you would score out and go on to Level 7

For most gyms xcel is a program that gymnasts can join if they still want to compete but can’t make the commitment required for JO. You can also move from JO to xcel if you can no longer make the commitment or because of an injury.

You definitely could, for excel all u usually need is to try out and if u competed JO u will most likely be accepted too. Since your a level seven gymnast, what skills do your coaches require you to have that are higher than the USAG requirements? I want to switch to level seven out of Xcel gold ( I have higher skills than xcel gold requirements) and I looked at the 6 & 7 requirements and I fit all the 6 and most of 7 and all of platinum but it doesn’t seem like I have enough skills compared to what I hear and see 6 & 7 gymnasts do. Another factor is I’m also like 15 so I don’t want to be like made fun off or look stupid bc I’m older than what seems to be the normal age

I was wondering if I can compete a yurcanko pike for vault , a bhs layoutstepout on beam a double back on floor and also a double fly away, overshoot on bars?? Please replay and the main reason I am switching is too do the high school gymnastics team because my gym doesn’t allow you to do high school and JO so I would go to excel!! I’m going to be using a theraband for my back hip circle fears. Do you think I could do anything else to improve??

If you don’t have a pullover or back hip circle you should go to bronze. Most of my girls in silver do their kip and a the girls from bronze all have their back hip circle. So maybe try pre team.

So technically on floor you don’t even have to do a back handspring? So it would just be a front handspring front pike and a RO back tuck.

    • thatonerandomperson 012 September 1, 2018, 12:59 pm

Her gym might specify these requirements but these are not the general USAG requirements. On beam she could complete a single back handspring as well as an acro series like a handstand-backwalkover. On bars she needs a B valued circling skill like a clear hip as well as either a pirouette (e.g. half turn), release (e.g. toe shoot), or another different B valued circling skill. This could be the giant or if she does a clear hip on the low bar and on the high bar in the Xcel Code of Points the same skill on the low bar and high bar counts as two different skills. If her gym won’t let her move to diamond without those skills, you could consider switching gyms.

My daughter is a level 4, working on Level 5 skills but was just shy of the scores by cut off time last spring so she finished at Level 4 then covid hit. She is moving to excel, Silver- why can’t she just go into gold, do the rules say she has to compete at silver for at least one meet and then move up?

Hi! I was also in level 4-5 when covid hit and I have since switched to excel and I went straight into gold so no there is not a rule you have to compete silver first they probably put her in silver to help her catch back up before competing at a higher level (the transition from silver to gold is similar to the transition from 3-4) but i am sure after a season or two they will move her up to gold. Hope this helps!

I’m 11 and I’m a level four right now but I think XCEL would be best for me when I move out of level 4.
I am super close to my ROBHSBT on floor and I have a front tuck.
For bars I have a kip on both high and low. I have a baby giant and I’m working on a fly away. For beam I have a back walk over, a front tuck of the end and I’m working on a tick tock and BHS. For vault I have a half on and a front hand spring on the table.
I wanted to know what level in XCEL would be ideal for me? I’m pretty strong and flexible.

I’m quite new to the system for xcel but I want to know where I should start. I’m pretty strong and flexible and willing to push myself, I’m just nervous to try some of the skills that I need for level 5&6 so I want to try xcel. I was thinking to start at silver or gold as I feel the bronze would be to easy for me. I want to know a good opinion about where it would be best for a decent level four to start in xcel.

Try silver and if it is too easy for you and the coaches see that they will move you up to gold. Silver is a pretty easy xcel level to pass and if you are a level 4 gymnast you might want to go straight to gold as it is not that different as you have to compete a rbt on floor and just a bit harder skills in general.

Hi, I am having a crisis of sorts. I would love love love to be JO if I had the option given to me but I’m on excel gold/ maybe moving up to platinum right now at a gym that doesn’t have JO. Gymnastics in my area is lowkey harsh in excel vs jo so I am a little nervous for that as well. I looked at the updated requirements for levels 6 & 7 and I am somewhere in the middle which surprised me and didn’t seem right so I don’t know if I would be accepted on 6 or 7 and if I’m not I would just want to stay in excel. I have a ROBHBT, front handspring front, front pike, working on layouts front and back, front and side aerials, and switch leap on floor; have pretty much have my round off & back walkover on beam, my cartwheel full turn and front tuck off and like switch leap and jumps on beam and training step outs; I have front handspring and half on on vault and working on half on half off and drills for tsukahara tuck; I have a kip, very close for my cast handstand, free hip, working on giants, fly away, working on layout flyaway, trained kip cast & pushaways, and pike on for bars. If anyone has any suggestions please please please give me them and or opinions too!!!
