Here is a video I made with my mom, a National Rated Gymnastics Judge, with 3 tips to help you improve your floor scores.

3 Tips to Help You Improve your Floor Scores

  1. The First 10 Seconds

The first tip is to make sure you make a great impression during the first 10 seconds of your gymnastics routine. The first 10 seconds will set the tone for the rest of the routine, so you want to make sure you are focused on really extending in every move and that you have good posture and pointed toes.

  2. The Choreography Between Skills

Don’t forget to have good form during the choreography between skills. There is a deduction of up to .3 for relaxed body posture, incorrect body position and insufficient flexibility in non value part skills throughout the exercise for both JO levels and Xcel levels. So judges can take deductions if you don’t have good form during the dance moves in your routine.

  3. Remember the Small Skills

The third tip is to remember the small skills like cat leaps and tuck jumps. If these small skills are done without good height or proper form, they are just as likely to result in a deduction.
