Join before June 29th to Not Miss Any Workouts and Still Be In the Running For the Prize!
A Press Handstand is an ESSENTIAL building block skill.
It helps you learn a cast handstand ("B" skill) on bars, which you will need starting in Level 7.
It also leads to learning "B" and "C" high valued mounts on beam.
Not convinced it's important?
A Press Handstand is one of only 7 Physical Abilities USA Gymnastics looks at in their Talent Opportunity Program, where they identify young gymnasts they predict will excel in the sport.
So obviously, they think it's a pretty important skill!
And, a switch leap is a "B" skill on Floor and a "C" skill on beam. Starting in Level 6 you need one "B" skill in each of your routines.
Why not spend your summer learning and improving this high-valued skill you will need ?!
Switch leaps and press handstands are advanced skills. But every gymnast can make progress learning them. All of the drills we do will also help you improve the basic skills- a leap and a handstand.
The summer is a time for learning new skills but it's also the perfect time to have some fun!
Each week you'll get a new packet filled with different activities for the week including a craft you can do at home, a gymnastics challenge, and a coloring page and activity worksheet.
Plus, during the 8 week challenge we'll be putting together a Gymnastics Vision Board. Each week we'll give you something new to do or add to your board. At the end of 8 weeks you'll have a personalized Vision Board (like the one below) that you can use for your upcoming gymnastics season.
STEP 1: You'll Sign up for SkillTrakker
At only $7 per month for the challenge, it's the best bet you'll ever make. Join a community of other gymnasts all working towards a common goal, in this case, a better press handstand and switch leap.
STEP 2: You'll Login & Start Completing the Daily Challenges
You'll get an email with instructions on how to create your account. Then you'll login and start completing the daily challenges.
STEP 3: After You Complete the Challenge You'll Win A Cool Prize*
After you *complete every challenge for both months* you will not only see progress in your before/after photos, but you'll also win a cool gymnastics prize.
That's a great question and we have a great answer for you.
The amount of progress you make during this challenge will depend 100% on how much effort you put into your daily challenges! A switch leap and press handstand are difficult skills that require a lot of time to master. You might not go from not being able to do a press handstand to then being able to do one completely but you WILL see progress if you follow our drills.
The drills we have created are designed to give you the most bang for your buck over the 60 days of the Summer "Camp" Challenge. But if you don't do them or only do them halfway, then chances are you won't see much of a difference between your day 1 video and your day 60 video.
BUT...if you put in the daily effort and try your hardest, you can make great progess like our SkillTrakker gymnasts did in our previous Switch Leap/Press Handstand challenge. Check out some of their results below.
These are Morgan's dramatic switch leap results, an Xcel Gold Gymnast, after completing our 60 day Press Handstand/Switch Leap Challenge last summer.
You can see Morgan's results even clearer below in her before/after videos.
These are Jordan's press handstand before/after videos after just 30 days of our challenge. At the time she had just gotten on to the Level 4 team. Here are some words she had to say about her progress:
These are Kyriana's, an Xcel Gold gymnast, switch leap results after completing our challenge.
We love prizes here at SkillTrakker! So for every skill-specific challenge that we run, we offer a prize for every gymnast that completes ALL of the challenges in that month. For this summer challenge we know things come up which is why, for the first time ever, we're allowing our gymnasts to have 2 weeks to complete the daily challenges to accomodate any traveling or camps they might be doing. This means even if you join late or miss a daily challenge, you can still make it up within the two week period to stay in the running of the prize!
This month we're SO excited to offer you our newest "Watch Me Flip" super soft T-shirt as a prize. This is so comfy and perfect for adding to your gymnastics clothes wardrobe!
I'm busy over the summer and I'm worried I won't have the time to complete this challenge?
We know how unpredictable summers can be which is why we created a challenge that can be done in a short amount of time each day. You can do the exercises in the morning before you go to camp or even right before bed. These exercises were designed to be focused and effective so it doesn't take much time each day to see results.
For the summer we are also changing how the challenge works to accomodate busy schedules. Usually challenge exercises are only available to be completed for 24 hours and then they expire. We are extending this time window to be 2 weeks to allow for vacations and camp that might prohibit you from doing the exercises for a week. That means you can catch up if you join the challenge late or miss any of the exercises for that day because you were traveling or busy at camp!!
My coach doesn't want me practicing at home because s/he's worried I'll pick up bad habits.
We understand why your coach wouldn't want you to develop any bad habits and we don't want you to either. Luckily the exercises you're going to do during this Press Handstand & Switch Leap challenge are all ones that will benefit you. We provide you with videos so you can see the proper way to do the drills and because press handstands and switch leaps mostly require strengh and flexibility, rather than technique, we are certain you'll get more good out of this challenge rather than pick up bad habits. In fact, any work at all on your leaps and handstands will be beneficial to you.
What exactly IS SkillTrakker? I can't really tell.
First and foremost, SkillTrakker is an online community of other gymnasts who are working on mastering different gymnastics skills. In SkillTrakker you can keep track of the different skills you're learning on each event and watch the progess you're making. You can even download certificates as you master each skill! You earn points for completing daily challenges and with your points you can win prizes in the SkillTrakker Store. In the daily feed you can see what other gymnasts are learning and cheer them on through comments and high fives. Basically, SkillTrakker is a really cool way to practice your gymnastics skills while staying motivated and belonging to a community of other cool gymnasts like yourself!
How long is this challenge?
This challenge lasts 60 days. It starts on Saturday, June 15th and ends on Friday, August 9th.
Does it cost money to join SkillTrakker's Summer "Camp" Challenge?
Yes, in order to participate in the SkillTrakker Challenge you must be signed up for SkillTrakker which costs $7 for each month. At only $7 per month ($14 for the two month challenge), this is an incredible deal!! You'll not only get daily challenges, community, and accountability, but you'll also get a prize* and you'll improve your press handstand and switch leap! In fact, the cost of a typical recreational gymnastics class in the U.S. averages about $20/hr. The cost for private gymnastics lessons is at least double that. With SkillTrakker you get skill-specific exercises to complete at home , in addition to a tracking tool and an entire gymnastics community, for less than 25 cents per day!!! Oh, and don't forget about the prize you can earn for completing all of the daily challenges for the duration of the challenge.
What happens after the challenge is over?
After the challenge is over you can continue to participate in SkillTrakker monthly (for $7/month) to see even better results. Skill-specific challenges (like the Better Handstands Challenge) occur approximately every two months. In the off-months we have created Daily Challenges meant to increase your skill mastery of a variety of skills. The Leaderboard gets cleared at the beginning of every month and you'll still earn points towards prizes in the SkillTrakker store. Most challengers find that their skills really see improvement after three to six months of consistent effort with SkillTrakker.
I have a question but you didn't answer it here.
If you have a question we didn't answer or you're confused about something, feel free to contact us at gymnasticshq@gmail.com. We want to make sure you feel confident that you're joining a community you'll love and will benefit from!
"That beam challenge last month helped me so much!!! I increased my score from a 9.2 to a 9.475. I was so happy with this routine this time!!!"
-Skye, Xcel Gold Gymnast
"Almost a year ago she participated in the handstand challenge. It taught her the power of being consistent. We (including her) were blown away by the progress made just from doing 10-15 minutes of practice everyday."
- Patty, mom of Level 4 Gymnast
"We love how #skilltrakker challenges allow for the girls to take charge of their home conditioning and encourage them to work hard outside of the gym to reach their goals!"
-Kim, mom of an Xcel Platinum and a Level 2 gymnast
I want to help you put in the hard work and consistent effort needed to improve your gymnastics skills.
If you do all the challenge exercises for 30 days, and you aren't happy with the challenge or SkillTrakker, simply email me and I will give you your money back.
